Joseph is the son of Jeptha and Hannah Trantham.

Jeptha Trantham died when Joseph was a child.

Information shows that Hannah Trantham and son Joseph had moved to Fairview just before or just after 1800

Hannah's husband’s sister, Mary Trantham Rickman,and her husband,Jesse,were living in Fairview

Joseph Trantham developed a cancer in the late 1840s and on May 1 1850 he died from cancer

Joseph and Amelia had at least 12 children

Joseph had at least 3 other wives                           

8.Margaret Trantham  1829-1893    m William "Billy" Rickman 1829-1908, her 1st cousin         

They had nine children                                     

Margaret is buried in the Mt.View Cemetery                  

in Mills River, Henderson County, NC                   

10.Thomas Trantham    1835-????  m. Mahala Bevard, daughter of James & Ruth Ashworth-Brevard            They had three children

11.David Trantham     1836-1862 Died in East Tennesse from wounds                         

  received in the Civil War

My Trantham Family Genealogy

Martin Trantham l and Elizabeth Eppinger

Martin is believe to be the first Trantham Ancestor in America. Came from Wales, although Trantham is a English name. Have no dates of birth or death. He married the widow,  Elizabeth Eppinger,  she gained a degree of fame by living so long.  Encyclopedia Britannica list she lived to be 154 years . History and Art Directory of Tennessee in 1820 census list her at 120 and she died in 1835 which would have made her 135 years. Their Son Martin II is our direct Trantham ancestor.

Martin Trantham ll and Ann Shaddock or Shattock name is spelled both ways in her history. 

Ann Shaddock was Martins 2nd  wife. Martin served in the Revolutional War from North Carolina in the 1st Regiment of Bowman’s company. Martin died sometime in 1786. Our ancestor Mary Trantham was their last born in 1771. She is our direct Trantham ancestor.

Jesse Riley and Mary Trantham Rickman Sr.

Jesse  b 2 May 1770  d 10 Mar 1860.. Mary  b 5 Dec 1771  d 21 Feb 1837. Daughter of Martin Trantham and Ann Shaddock/ Shattock.  Jesse and Mary had 14 children. After Mary died, Jesse married Widow Rhoda Taylor Gadd born  abt 1770.

John and Nancy Whitaker Rickman

John Rickman b 20 Apr 1795 d 8 Jan 1841   Son of Jesse and Mary Trantham Rickman Sr. Nancy was Daughter of Joshua and Nancy Childers Whitaker. Death of John Rickman: He went up on the Mills Ridge to look for his “out” hogs never return. He was found dead lying beside a log, apparently of a heart attack, at the age of 46.. Nancy never re-married. John and Nancy had eleven children.

1st John Reed  (ours) born 5 May 1710 England, married 21 Mar 1732/33 to Hannah Davis, Burlington Co NJ. He died about 1750

2nd William Eldad about 1714, married Christian Jennings 

3rd George about 1716 married Delieverance

4th Joseph about 1718.

John born May 05, 1710,  died 1750. married on 21 Mar 1732/33 to Hannah Davis, born 15 Apr 1721, daughter of John III and EleanorHoglien.Davis.

John and Hannah Davis Reed had ten children.

2nd  Eldad I  born 1737  m Jane Whitaker he died abt 1896 in Buncombe Co NC

3rd Medad twin of Eldad, born 1737 d after 1800 no record of marriage. 

4th  Moses abt 1740, Elizabeth abt 1743 married Aug 11, 1767 Jersey Settlement Rowan Co NC to Joseph Johnstone,   

5th Sarah b 1745 d 1815 in Lincoln Co TN m. Jan 19, 1763.Morgan Davis in Rowan Co NC

Eldad Reed II, born 16 Sep 1767, Rowan Co NC, died 24 Jun 1849, Buncombe Co NC,  son of Eldad & Jane Whitaker Reed , married  29 Aug 1793 to Achsah Lanning,  born 4  May 1766, Bordentown NJ, died  24 Jun1849 in Buncombe Co NC, buried in Cane Creek Cemetery Fairview NC,  daughter of Joseph & Marcy Lowensberry Lanning,

Eldad Reed II and Achsah Lanning had 4 children

1st Joseph Reed.12  May 1797 Rowan Co N,C died 8 Feb 1876 Lawrence Co IN, m Nancy Rickman, daughter of Jesse  Riley & Mary Trantham Rickman,

2nd Eldad III  born Dec 9, 1799 Rowan Co died Oct 17, 1865 Sullivan Co MO married Nov. 18, 1824 to Elizabeth Gallimore

3rd John Reed born Nov 21, died 1802 Aug 8, 1885 married 1823 to Lavina McBrayer,

4th Anna Reed born Dec 10, 1806 died 1855 married 1829 to William R. Clements.

Eldad Reed lll, was born on  Monday, 9 Dec 1799  in Rowan (now Davidson) County, NC, died 17 Oct 1865, married Elizabeth Gallimore, born 16 Sep 1804 in Haywood Co. NC, died 11 May 1852  in Buncombe Co NC. Daughter of Asaph Gallimore, born 1767 in VA  and Elizabeth Garren Reed. Eldad III is buried also as well as two small daughters who died young  at White Cemetery

1st Achsah , b 11Mar 1825 in Buncombe Co NC died 1900 Sullivan Co MO, married George Board 13 Apr1865 in Sullivan Co MO 1st Hubs was James Birch

2nd Infant daughter April 26, 1827

3rd Sophonia b 6 Aug1828

4th Naomi C. Reed  b  10 Jun 1830 in Buncombe Co NC died 20 Sep 1870 in Sullivan Co. MO., married Joshua Rickman 24 Jun 1850 Buncombe County North Carolina. Naomi buried at the Elmwood Cemetery.

5th Joseph R. Reed October 01, 1831 Buncombe Co NC married Harriett Isabelle Brevard on Jan 3, 1856 in Sullivan Co MO., died May 9 1911 Sullivan Co Missouri,  this family is buried in the Judson Cemetery in Sullivan County, Missouri

6th John Alexander Reed July 17, 1833 story goes that they stopped at a farm in Indiana to camp on the way to Missouri and this son fell in love with the daughter then went back and married her after the family got settled. married Altamira Britton born April 5, 1831 & died Feb. 11, 1869. John Alexander died Oct 10, 1867 in Greenville Tennessee

7th Nancy Meloney Reed  born 18 Dec 1835 Buncombe County North Carolina  died Nov 23, 1907 Warner Muskogee County Oklahoma

8th Eldad IV  served in the Civil War PVT Mo Co I 66th Reg 1863 was listed as Blacksmith). He was born 15 Mar 1837, died 23, Aug 1917 Hickory County Missouri. Married Eliza M. Belt May 20, 1861 Sullivan County, Missouri

9th Asa Medad born  27Mar 1838 in Buncombe Co NC, died 27, Feb 1916 Putnam Co Missouri., married  Nancy J. Watkins 24 Dec 1861 Putnam Co

10th Susan Anna "Susie" born 14 Oct 1840, died 31 Aug 1905 in Blackburn AR Washington Co. married in Martin Moore Sullivan Co MO,  Baptist Minister in Co I 44th MO Inft Civil War.

11th Columbus Harrison Reed  born 3 May 1842 Buncombe Co North Carolina was also in Civil war died 21 1900

12th Joseph Reed  born 1 Oct 1831 married Sarah Ellen Duskey March 30, 1862 Sullivan Co  Missouri  buried in Oakwood Cemetery Sullivan Co MO .

Naomi Reed married Joshua Rickman

Joshua Rickman and Naomi Reed had six children

1st  John Newton Rickman 2 May 1852  2 May 1937  married  Mary Ella Fuqua 25 July 1858 born 1829

2nd  Nancy Elizabeth Rickman         b.15 Oct 1854    d.   8 Feb 1929         m William Garrett they had no children

3rd  Jesse Eldad Rickman     b. 25 Jan 1857   d.  31 Dec 1933       m 1888 to Pauline C. Davis they had 8 children

4th  Jana (Jane) Ashah Rickman      b.14 Jun 1858    d.  28 Nov 1874           buried in White Cemetery, Sullivan Co. NC

5th Miles M. Wilborn Rickman         b .2 May 1863  d.  23 Apr 1924    died in Blackburn, Arkansas

6th  Amanda Malona Rickman          b. 2 Apr 1869    d.  29 Jul 1870    died at a yr old buried White Cemetery NC

* John Newton Rickman and Mary Ella Fuqua were married in Williamsburg, Kansas.

  They continued to live in Waverly,  Kansas until their deaths.

*Joshua was farmer, carpenter and a bridge builder. Joshua & Naomi  had a family of six children. While living in Sullivan County, Missouri, Naomi past away, then Joshua went to Blackburn, Arkansas and live there until his death  3 Oct 1903.
